Musical collective Grand Trunk Travellers’ EP-series Lowercase Sessions expands with a sequel, in the same vein as its predecessor from 2013.
The interest has sprouted for the band since they made numerous acoustic performances with only harmonium, glockenspiel, acoustic guitar and floor tom. This organic sound has been preserved in the studio in both songs adapted for acoustic trio format, as in the songs for a full scale band.
Like the previous EP, the songs are based on frontman Karl-Johan Jonsson’s vocals and acoustic guitar. Clever lyrics in pleasant, melancholic melodies are backed by sisters Martina Høidahl and Julia Jonsson. As a pulsing heart you find tasteful drums and bass as a solid foundation, the warmth from the pedal organ is there along with small melodies from both glockenspiel, half-tuned piano and dreamy guitars. It’s hard to not sing along.
The EP is released in a limited edition, once again with handmade covers, designed by Jonatan Strömgren.
Other contributors are Simon Walther Høidahl on electric guitar and bass, Joel Sörsäter on harmonium and vocals, Anders Eckeborn on drums and producer Jonatan Samuelsson on glockenspiel, piano, organ, bass, acoustic guitar and vocals.
The EP is released as hard copy and in digital formats on the 27th of June 2014, when the band starts their mini-tour in the Baltic States.
“I won’t be surprised if this is gonna be David Lynch´s new favorite band, the music is perfect as a soundtrack for a Lynch film.”
